Subscollections on collection pages

Estimated reading: 1 minute

The Subcollection feature is set up using Metafields and the dedicated Subcollections section. To get started, the first step is to create a new collections metafield.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Custom data.
  2. In the Metafield section, select Collections.
  3. In the new window, click Add definition to create the metafield.

You can name the metafield “Subcollections” or choose another name, but it’s essential to set the Namespace and Key field to: custom.subcollections.

  1. In the Select type field, choose Collection.
  2. Then, select List of Collections.
  3. Save the definition.

Once your definition is set, navigate to Products > Collections, select one of your collections, and scroll down to the Metafields section. You should now see the “Subcollections” metafield you created.

By clicking on the Subcollections metafield, you can select the collections you want to add as subcollections for the current collection. Repeat this process for all collections where you want subcollections to appear on their collection pages.

The final step is to open your Theme Editor.

  1. From the template drop-down, select Collections and then the Default Collection template.
  2. Add the Subcollections section and customize it as needed.

Subcollections will now automatically display on any collection page where subcollections are set in the metafield.
